Year 1/2 (cherry class)
Our year one and two children have been freshing up on their gymnastic skills, with lots of enthusiasm. They have been brilliant role models in helping and teaching our reception children with learning lots of new things and helping them build the same confidence as themselves, with using all of our different gymnastic's equipments.
Reception
Our reception children have been practising their gymnastic skills this term in PE and have been having a fantastic time, trying out and testing all of their new personal skills they have built up over the term.
On Tuesday 10th March 2020 we took 6 Year 3 and 4 gymnasts to represent Great Gidding School at the Hunts SSP School Games Gymnastics Competition held at the Huntingdon Gymnastics Club.
All 6 children were judged on their vaulting techniques. Three of the gymnasts competed in a Body Management routine ( which included performing right splits, box splits and left splits!) and the other three children performed a Floor Exercise Routine. The latter included forward and backwards rolls, shoulder stands and cartwheels.
They all performed brilliantly and we are delighted to announce that we came 2nd out of the 26 schools who took part in the competition. This means that our team has now qualified for the Year3/4 Key-Step Gymnastics Competition at the School Games County Spring Festival, representing the Hunts SSP. Date TBC. Well done to all our brilliant gymnasts on this fantastic achievement!
On Monday 9th March 2020 Great Gidding launched our start of The Daily Mile in conjunction with the start of Sport Relief Week. The whole school, staff and many supportive parents walked, jogged, skipped or ran around the playground in order to raise money for Sport Relief.
Our aim is for each class, at a time of their choosing, to spend 15 minutes walking, jogging or running around the playground at least 3 times a week. So far the initative is being enjoyed by all and the benefits are clear to see.
