Week Beginning 23rd March

Art

Look at the colourful painting below by the artist Henri Matisse.

It is called 'Open Window'. Can you draw a picture of what you can see through a window in your house? You could make it colourful by using paints, pens or even pieces of paper. Be as creative as you can.

Henri Matisse, Open Window, Collioure, 1905, oil on canvas, Collection of Mr. and Mrs. John Hay Whitney, 1998.74.7

Science

In science we are starting the new topic 'Changing Shape'. We will be exploring how different materials can or cannot be manipulated.

Please work through the lesson presentation below and then complete the changing shape activity sheet. At the top of each sheet there is a star, generally 1 star=Reception children, 2 stars=Year 1 children and 3 stars=Year 2 children but by all means your child is welcome to challenge themselves. Have fun learning about which materials can change shape.

Maths

This week's Maths is all about measurement.

Please choose 3 activities from the Maths PDF resources below.

Extra support for Year 1 & Year 2 is available in the teaching Powerpoint which is also listed below.

Instructions for each resource are on the worksheet.

Spellings & Handwriting

In your home school learning pack you will have received weekly spellings and handwriting sheets.

Please complete these each week as normal and perhaps have a spelling test at home on Friday. Handwriting sheets can be completed at any time during the week.

English

Choose two tasks to complete from the English PDF tasks below.

  • Creative Writing PDF - please choose 2 picture prompt sheets, can you answer the task given on each sheet. (I don't expect you to do all 36 sheets!)
  • Year 1 & 2 Fiction and Non Fiction PDF - Read the short story and answer the questions.
  • Reception & Year 1 Jack and the Beanstalk Challenge - Can you complete all the challenges listed on the sheet? There's a selection of Writing, Maths & Science challenges.
  • Reception & Year 1 Phonics Booklet - Can you using your phonics knowledge to complete the sheets? I don't expect you to do all the booklet at once, it might take you a couple of weeks.

PSHE

We are beginning to explore emotions and feelings through our PSHE lessons. Please look at the photo cards, can you explain how each child is feeling?

Perhaps you could discuss what might have happened to make that person feel that emotion.

After your discussion please complete the emotions & feeling activity sheet, can you draw on the faces to show the different emotions?
